In the olden days
When you had promised your boyfriend
You wouldn’t do any more shows
Because he was frustrated at not getting to spend time with you
And then you did another show immediately after
When you had long hair
When you didn’t leave campus for longer than a week for four years
Because oh how you fell in love with uni life
(Even though it was the site of your worst depression)
It was transformative in so many wonderful ways
The happy memories
Of rehearsal in the old army barracks
That they later tore down
(Weren’t they heritage listed?)
And Studio Four
With all the old productions
Sharpied on the wall
That they also tore down
The familiar faces

Angie and Lexie and ChrisBob

Who can greet you with
Humility and warmth
Because they’ve seen a lot

And are doing the work
To figure out
Who they want to be
It makes for great conversation
While they draw your blood

And catching the earlier bus
And coming home
To a home cooked meal
And your puppy flooping on your lap
And falling into bed
With a heart full of song
Whom you have missed
And delicious conversation
And sharing food
And walking 30 blocks so you can hang out some more

Fairy Wing
You find a leaf
The leafy part has mostly
Decayed but the
Delicate veins
Remain
It is so light
So barely there
It might not even exist
(Save for the sturdier stem)
It could almost be a fairy wing
Disguised as a leaf
To trick passers by into
Barely even noticing it
But the structure of it
The lightness of it
The impossibility of it
Surely is magic
The leafy part has mostly
