And you get to meet his son
And another friend from LA
Now living in NYC

And you think of all the myriad of events
That led you to this diner
On the upper west side

To be sitting with these lovely people

Spells of the Sea
Oh what a joy it was
To be able a stream
A brand new musical
Performed in St Louis
From the Metro Theater Company
While I’m in New Jersey.
It was delightful and fun
And made me laugh out loud
And the glowing magic bottles
And shiny oversized fish
And ridiculous pirates
And sparkly mermaid --
With a belt from here to high heaven
And the actors playing instruments
And all the make believe
Made my inner child and grown up self
Feel oh so happy.
What an enchantment to be under
If only for an hour
On a Sunday afternoon.
To be able a stream

What a luxury to get a massage!
And by a masseuse with magic hands
Who finds knots and tension you didn’t even know you had
And who when she’s done makes you feel
Like you have a new body
Lighter but more grounded
Relaxed
What is this feeling?!
The delicious smell of lemongrass
A lovely scent that makes you smile

I walked out of the building
Where I had been inside all day
And up in the darkened sky was

Patient Acting
If you’d had told me
Eight and a half years ago
That I would voluntarily
Be a patient
Even a fake one
I probably would’ve laughed at you
Or said no thank you
But the joy I get
From being a fake patient
Is truly wonderful
An exercise in acting
Structured improv in a medical setting
Being aware of your body
And expressions
Keeping your script in mind
Whilst also observing the student doctor
To provide feedback
