Every Little Counts
In the morning
I went for a walk
With my smoothie
And my new walking shoes
And a lovely podcast in my ears
And then I went to work where I had
The surprise of an early
When I was expecting to be late
And I came home and binge watched excellent TV
And did the laundry
And decided at 8.30pm that I wanted to cook
So I popped out to the store
And on a Sunday night
Astoria was hopping
All the lovely cafes and restaurants and stores
And all the people and families
And the fairy lights
And the sun not setting until nearly 9pm
And I made a delicious salad from the Abel&Cole recipe book
And I got a little more work done
And I felt content.

A Stroll Around the Neighborhood
I was done with work around 5pm
Decided to go for a stroll
Wandered down to Astoria Park where
Singles and couples and families were
Out walking and running
Kids were playing ball games on the field and
People were lounging on the grass
Enjoying the sun
Nibbling on impromptu picnics
Under the bridge
Down the path toward
The Hell Gate Bridge
Like a mini Sydney Harbour Bridge
In pink
(Well, it’s more the other way around
The Sydney Bridge is modeled off the Hell Gate
A giant grey version on the other side of the planet)
I treated myself to an ice cream cone
Walked up Ditmars
Across Steinway
Failing in finding new running shoes
But discovering hookah bars
And coffee shops
And whole other worlds to explore
By the time I got home
It was almost a quarter to eight with
Nearly five miles under my feet
Decided to go for a stroll
